The Citizenship Amendment Bill which got Union Cabinet’s nod on December 4th, 2019 will be tabled at the Parliament on Monday. The move has however upset the people along with the opposition and student bodies as they continue to show their resentment against the bill.

The bill seeks to grant citizenship to six communities – Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists and Parsis who had migrated to India without valid travel documents and reached the Indian territory on or by December 31st, 2014.
Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the Bill is a “divisive policy” of Narendra Modi-led government in the Centre. On the other hand, All Assam Students’ Union and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chattra Parishad along with 30 other ethnic organisations said that they will continue to oppose the Bill.
