Big Breaking: Former Assam Min Gautam Roy Resigns From Congress, Likely To Join BJP Tomorrow

Gautam Roy along with general secretary Ramen Borthakur was earlier suspended for anti-party activities.

In another blow to the Congress, former minister and veteran leader from Barak Valley Gautam Roy has resigned from the party and is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 11th, 2019.

Roy along with general secretary Ramen Borthakur was earlier suspended for anti-party activities. According to the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Roy was distributing sweets after the BJP candidate won from Karimganj Lok Sabha seat.

Roy told TIME8 on August 10th, 2019 that he said he is leaving Congress due to “zero leadership” in the party.

On the other hand, rumours are rife that former minister Bharat Narah and present Rajya Sabha MP Ranee Narah will also switch over to the BJP.

Bhubaneshwar Kalita, former Congress chief whip in Rajya Sabha who resigned from the House on August 5th, 2019 opposing the party’s stand on the government’s decisions to scrap Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, joined the BJP on August 9th, 2019.

Kalita is the second Congress Rajya Sabha member after Sanjay Singh, a member of the erstwhile Amethi royal family, who has joined the BJP. Singh too was a Rajya Sabha member from Assam. Kalita and Singh’s tenures were slated to expire in 2020.
