Agartala: Tension prevailed in the Ranirbazar area in the West Tripura district on Sunday after a group of bike-borne miscreants attacked CPIM activists.

According to the CPIM party leaders, at least eight party workers including a woman were injured while two of them had been admitted to the GBP Hospital.

Narrating the incident, CPIM West Tripura district secretary Ratan Das said, around 8 PM activists assembled at the house of one Tita Chakraborty at Vidyanagar in the Ranirbazar area on Sunday and were engaged in discussion relating to the party organization. Meantime, a group of bike-borne ‘identified’ miscreants attacked the house with rods and sticks. He also revealed the names of some of the alleged miscreants.

The same group of miscreants, Das continued and said, went to the house of ailing Tinku Saha’s house. Venting anger at the role of the Police, Das said locals moved the injured to hospitals while the Police remained a mute spectator.

Condemning the attack, Das said, the injury of one Bhaskar Datta is serious and he may have to undergo an operation. He referred to the identified’ miscreants and alleged, they are all close to the local MLA and also the Minister.

Echoing the same CPIM leader Manik Deb also trained guns at the Police administration for its alleged inefficacy in taking action against the attackers. “We want the BJP backed goons who attacked the CPM workers to be arrested”, Deb demanded.

He also informed the media that he had talked to the Superintendent of Police, West regarding the incident. Deb also slammed the ruling government and alleged jungle raj is prevailing in the State since 2018.

“Ranirbazar area had witnessed several violent incidents after BJP came into power – our party offices were gutted, supporters were beaten, many party workers fled from their houses and were unable to return home till now,” Manik Deb alleged.
