Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, Biswajit Daimary on August 23rd, 2019 took a jibe at Independent MP Naba Kumar Sarania and said that the latter is trying to play “divide and rule” policy by creating discrimination between the Bodos and non-Bodos.
“There is no dispute between the Bodos and non-Bodos in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD). There might be fights among the ethnic organizations for their rights but it is not related to non-Bodos. The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) is continuously working for upliftment and development of the BTAD. The support of the people to the BPF has been reflected in the Lok Sabha elections as more than 3 lakh people voted for the party,” said Daimary while addressing a press meet.
He further added, “Now, Sarania has announced to float a new political party. Sarania wants to inflict hate between the Bodos and non-Bodos and is not bothered about the development of the region. The public knows the truth and they will stand by those who work for the people.”
Sarania, who is representing the Kokrajhar constituency since 2014, made an announcement on August 21st, 2019 that he has decided to float a new political party by October and exhibited confidence that his party will win 35 seats out of the 40 seats. The announcement came ahead of the 2020 general election of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
A former ULFA commander, Sarania also stated that the party will be modelled on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in a bid to safeguard the interests of the non-Bodos.
The last Bodoland Territorial Council election was held on April 8th, 2015 to elect the 3rd council of the BTAD.
