The Biswanath police on July 1st, 2019 rescued a 17-year-old girl hailing from Assam from a house located in Taksing, a village in Arunachal Pradesh.

As per reports, the girl was “sold” by her maternal uncle, Babul Lohar in Lakhimpur district of Assam seven years ago. Since then, she was working as a domestic help in Arunachal Pradesh.

A few days ago, a person named Rajib Bhuyan who had gone on a work trip to Taksing village wrote about the girl on his social media handles. The post promoted the local students’ organization to swing into action and lodged an FIR in the Biswanath police station.

Soon, the police launched a search operation and rescued the girl from the village and also, arrested Babul.
