    BJP Assam MPs Meet Modi Seeking Special Assistance For Flood-Hit Assam

    Guwahati: As incessant rains worsened the flood conditions this year, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Rameswar Teli along with a delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 19th, 2019 and submitted a memorandum asking for Special Central Assistance to the flood-affected areas in Assam.

    The delegation included – Kamakhya Prasad Tasa (MP, Rajya Sabha), Pallab Lochan Das (MP, Rajya Sabha), Pradan Baruah (MP, Lakhimpur), Topon Kumar Gogoi (MP, Jorhat), Dilip Saikia (MP, Mangaldai), Dr Rajdeep Roy (MP, Silchar), Queen Oja (MP, Gauhati), Kripanath Mallah (MP, Karimganj) and Horen Singh Bey (MP, Autonomous Council).

    In the memorandum, the MPs have asked the Prime Minister to consider for a special package for the Central Flagship Projects like PMGSY, PMAY, PMKSY as roads, houses and crops have been damaged due to the ravaging floods.

    They have also asked for a Special Central Assistance to the flood-affected areas in Assam to tackle and protect the “repeated loss of life, land, damage to crops and property, loss of wildlife due to floods that occur every year”. The delegation also asked for an additional fund under the Flood Management and Border Areas Programme (FMBAP) Scheme for effective flood management and erosion control in the state.

    It may be mentioned, a total of 53,52,107 people and 4,128 villages have been affected due to flood as on July 18th, 2019. The government on July 16th, 2019 released Rs 251.55 crore as assistance from the central share of SDRF for 2019-20.
