Guwahati, November 8: Gaurav Gogoi, Congress MP of Kaliabor Loksabha Constituency, on Thursday lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam.
“The BJP government is not working for the development of the Assamese people. They have now brought the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in order to disrupt the updation process of the National Register of Citizens (NRC),” Gogoi told media persons on the sidelines of protesting to mark two years of demonetisation here.
He added, “We have all seen how the State Government treated the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi during his Guwahati visit. The entire State Government machinery was busy welcoming BJP national president Amit Shah. The CJI is the son of Assam.”
Gogoi, who is also the AICC in-charge for West Bengal, further said that the BJP and its coalition partner Asom Gana Parishad are “hungry for power”.
“They (AGP) only raises slogans on regionalism but their stand is still not clear for the Panchayat Polls. In one moment, the AGP will say that they will contest the polls with the BJP, other time they will say that they will contest alone. The BJP-AGP joined hands only to loot the people of Assam, break their trust. They are only bothered about their chairs,” he added.
