Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora on Wednesday stated that in order to save the country, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should be removed from power.
Addressing an election rally for the party’s Barpeta candidate Abdul Khaleque here, he said, “Bjp hatao, desh bachao (Remove BJP and save the country). The ruling party has damaged the country and to prevent it from creating more damage, it should be removed from power.”
“BJP wants to destroy us by passing the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 but we will never let that happen. We have been vehemently opposing the Bill and we will continue to do so and in fact, if voted to power the Bill will never see the light of the day”, he added.
Also, voicing confidence of sweeping 8 seats out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam district, he said, “We are sure that the Congress will win 8 seats and it will be a big win for us.”
It may be mentioned, Barpeta will go to polls in the third phase on April 23rd, 2019 and it includes Bongaigaon, Abhayapuri South, Patacharkuchi, Barpeta, Jania, Baghbar, Sorukhetri, Chenga and Dharmapur.
