BJP is disoriented on CAA, needs to be shown the door; alleges Congress
Guwahati: A day left to the first phase of assembly elections and campaigning for the first phase ends on Thursday at 6 pm. The political parties have left no stone unturned to woo the voters to gain votes in the ensuing Assam Legislative assembly election.
The Congress alleged that no BJP leader, whether it is Prime Minister or chief minister, is prepared to face and answer the real questions of the people of Assam.
One of the most important issues in Assam is the issue of the Citizenship Amendment Act. While the BJP has been vocal on CAA for a long, the silence of the BJP leaders of Assam proves that they are completely disoriented the Congress said.
The opposition also claimed that the dual nature of the BJP has been exposed on the issue of CAA, as the leaders of BJP have been tactfully avoiding addressing the issue.
“The BJP leaders have been completely silent on the issue of CAA in Assam. Mr Sarbananda Sonowal is silent, Himanta Biswa Sarma is silent. In Assam, the honourable Prime minister remains silent on this issue and Amit Shah also avoids the issue in each of his addresses,” the grand old party stated in its release.
The release also stated that “BJP leaders are asking the people of Assam for five more years to seal the Bangladesh border but they don’t go to the people of Assam to present what have they accomplished in the last five years. To give them five more years would mean handing over the government and administration of Assam to the smugglers.”
“The people of Assam understand that to give the BJP five more years would mean to completely destroy the culture of Assam, the identity of Assam. The people of Assam are also aware of their nefarious intentions to implement CAA. A democracy provides each citizen with the Brahmastra of a vote in each hand to completely dethrone the party that is hell-bent on destroying the culture, social fabric and identity of Assam,” it said.
Congress also assured that with the guarantees which the party has given to the people of Assam, the Congress will not allow Assam to become a detention centre.
The APCC has also condemned the statement of home minister Amit Shah that there were no protests in Assam in the last 5 years. “He wants to simply obliterate the anti- CAA uprising that happened in Assam. He wants to deny the existence of those young boys like Sam Strafford and Dipanjol who lost their lives in police firing by Sonowal police force. What can be more unfortunate for the people of Assam than this?” the party stated.
The party asserted, “Congress party has one stand. We oppose CAA and will leave no stone unturned.”
