Guwahati, November 7: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) is the biggest beneficiary of demonetization.
“Tomorrow demonetization will complete 2 years but instead of giving a boost to the Indian economy it has hindered it. The government promised that through demonetization, black money will be wiped out from the country but they converted the black money into white money,” said Gogoi.
Further adding, “All the ministers of the ruling party have become rich by demonetization but the society did not benefit from it and it is really a sad picture to see after 2 years of its implementation”
In 2016, the Indian government decided to demonetize the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, the two biggest denominations in its currency system; these notes accounted for 86% of the country’s circulating cash.
“With little warning, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to the citizens on November 8 that those notes were worthless and they had until the end of the year to deposit or exchange them for newly introduced Rs 2000 and Rs 500,” Gogoi said.
