    BJP leader booked for raping minor girl in Tripura

    Agartala: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a BJP booth president at Kapalitila area of Maharanipur under Teliamura police station, about 46 KMs away from Agartala city.

    As per reports, one Shyamal Sarkar, president of Booth No. 24 of Krishnapur assembly constituency, allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl in the area for a month about eight months back.

    The minor girl was presently reported to be seven months pregnant.

    A written complaint was lodged against Shyamal Sarkar at Teliamura police station on Friday afternoon.

    In this context, the mother of the raped minor said that the family members of the minor may have known about the matter 15-16 days back. The matter was verbally informed to the Teliamura police station on Thursday night. And a written complaint was lodged with the Teliamura police station on Friday.

    Teliamura police went to Shyamal Sarkar’s house after receiving a verbal complaint from the family of the raped minor. But before that, he managed to escape.

    According to a special source, Shyamal Sarkar claimed to be the right hand of a leader of the 29-Krishnapur assembly constituency.

    Sources also informed that the booth president Shyamal Sarkar tried to bribe the victim’s family. He even offered Rs 40,000 to the family of the minor.

    Local sources further said that about a month back the general secretary of Booth No. 24 in the same area, Prashanta Sarkar, came under attack by people for women-related issues. The incident was settled through an arbitration meeting in the area.

    Meanwhile, a case was lodged at the Teliamura police station for case vide number 89/21T.L.M.P.S under section 376/506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 4 of the POCSO Act.
