BJP leader Pamela Goswami caught with cocaine in Kolkata
Guwahati: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth-wing leader Pamela Goswami on Friday was arrested with cocaine worth lakhs of rupees from South Kolkata’s New Alipore area.
Reportedly, around 100 gm of cocaine was found in her handbag and other parts of the car she was travelling in. She is the state secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
Besides Goswami, two other people – Prabir Kumar Dey and Somnath Chatterjee – were also arrested. Dey is a friend of Goswami and her colleague at BJYM, while Chatterjee is her security guard.
All three of the accused have been booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and will be produced in a court on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of the new Alipore police station made the arrests when she was parking the vehicle, reports say. A team of policemen in eight vehicles surrounded Goswami’s car and apprehended her.
The police claimed that Goswami along with her friend Prabir Dey had been purchasing drugs from a peddler in the New Alipore area and police had prior information about their visit on Friday, following which they were intercepted at the spot.
According to reports, Pamela Goswami has worked as an air hostess, a model and a TV actress before joining BJP in 2019. Later on, she was appointed as the General Secretary and observer for the Yuva Morcha in Hooghly district.
