Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Duliajan MLA Terash Gowalla on February 28th, 2020, came down heavily on Assam Police after Additional Director General of Police, Law & Order, GP Singh appreciated the traffic staffers of Chandmari Police Station, Guwahati.
The traffic cops of Chandmari had fined the legislator for violating traffic rules. The MLA questioned if the traffic constable Bishnu Bora was “rewarded” by Assam Police for ‘defaming’ him.
Singh on February 28th, 2020 tweeted a photograph of himself along with the Chandmari Traffic staffers. He complimented the traffic cops for “exemplary display of duty under trying circumstances”. The top cop, however, deleted the tweet.

“My driver parked the vehicle in a no-parking zone for which the traffic constable locked the vehicle. I agree that it was a violation of traffic law and later the matter was settled. But, the traffic police relocked my vehicle and issued a challan when I was about to move out of the area. Is there any rule like that?” Gowala told Time8.
While urging the government to withdraw his security personnel, he said, “The security personnel can do anything with me if the traffic police can go to such an extent to rewarded by the higher officials and the government.”
Besides, Gowalla said that he would raise the issue in the Assam Legislative Assembly. “The government has to make it (stand on the issue) clear,” he added.
The MLA was fined by the traffic constable Bora for parking his vehicle in a ‘no-parking’ zone in Guwahati on February 25th, 2020. There were reports that Gowalla also misbehaved and assaulted the on-duty police constable Bora for locking the wheel of his vehicle.
