The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s Khumtai legislator Mrinal Saikia’s remark against the organisations protesting against the amended Citizenship Act has stirred up a hornets’ nest.
Addressing a meeting on December 26th, 2019, Saikia said that the leaders of the organisations protesting against the act have earned lakhs of rupees in the name of the protests.
He said, “Enough is enough. No need to worry. If somebody sets your house on fire then do the same with them. If they hurt one of our activists, then hit their 10.”
Condemning the incident, the Chabua wing of the All Assam Students’ Union demanded immediate arrest of the legislator. The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad demanded appropriate action against the MLA.
Meanwhile, the Brihattar Asomiya Yuva Mancha, Sivasagar, lodged an FIR with the Sivasagar Sadar Police against the MLA in the matter.
