Guwahati: Assets of Assam BJP MLAs who were reelected in 2016 from 2011 shot up heavily during the period, said the latest report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
Out of the parties, major growth has been seen in assets of the MLAs of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) between 2011 and 2016.
The total assets of the BJP MLAs in 2011 was Rs 2.17, and showed a rapid growth in 2016 and reached Rs 3.82; a highest among all the parties. Currently, the BJP party has 8 MLAs in the assembly.
Among all the MLAs, Chandan Brahma of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), an ally of the BJP, was declared maximum increase in assets with an increase of Rs 6.97 crores from Rs 2.60 crores in 2011 to Rs 9.58 crores in 2016.
Brahma was followed by Abdur Rahim Ajmal of AIUDF and Nazrul Islam of INC, whose assets have increased by Rs 6.26 and Rs 3.33 in 2016, respectively.
The ADR report published on Monday added that the average assets of the re-elected MLAs in 2011 was Rs 1.56 crore which rose to Rs 3.04 crore in 2016.
The analysis report also included the Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, whose assets have seen a massive growth from Rs 3.32 crore in 2011 to Rs 6.38 crore in 2016.
