Guwahati, March 16, 2019
Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) MP from Nagaon constituency and Union minister of state for railways, Rajen Gohain on March 16th 2019 announced that he would not contest the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections.
The Union Minister announced the same addressing a presser at the capital city in Delhi on Saturday.
“Keeping in view of the false criminal case against me which is yet to be closed, I have decided not to contest the elections till i am set free from the accusations. This is my personal decision,” said Gohain.
Further adding, “As the election commission has some strict rules against the ones with criminal cases and due to this the other candidates of the party might face some awkward position. I in no way want to hamper my party,”.
It may be mentioned that BJP is expected to release its first list of candidates on March 16th 2019. As per reports, the party will announce the list after the party’s election committee meeting. The meeting is likely to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National BJP President Amit Shah at party headquarters in New Delhi.
The Union Minister while justifying himself against the criminal case charged against him added, “I have got clearance from the lower court and the case has stayed at the High Court. The next hearing is on March 25th and it conflicts with the last date of the nominations. Although there is no proof to the allegations levelled against me, i would not take part in any election till the case is closed,”.
