Guwahati: The state government of Assam on Saturday evening formed a five-member ‘Board of Doctors’ to examine and observe the health conditions of anti-CAA protesters and jailed Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leader, Akhil Gogoi.
Minister of state (independent) for health and family welfare Pijush Hazarika informed Time8 that the ‘Board of doctors’ will comprise former Gauhati Medical College and Hospital principal Prof (Dr) Bhabani Prasad Chakravarty, Dr Basanta Hazarika of the GMCH and Dr Sangit Dutta, Professor and heads of department of medicine, GMCH, Dr Brajendra Lahkar, Senior Consultant Physician, Health City Hospital and Dr Nilom Khaund, Apollo Hospital Guwahati.
According to Minister Hazarika, Gogoi would be admitted and treated at the GMCH itself.
Gogoi was confirmed Covid-19 positive on Saturday evening though the jail authority claimed his earlier antigen test report negative.
Earlier, the Guwahati Central jail authority highlighted that the peasant leader had been suffering from skin allergy and piles and claimed that Gogoi was improving gradually.
According to the jail authority, a four-member team of doctors visited the jail premises recently and examined Gogoi’s health following which the authority claimed that Gogoi was ‘clinically stable’.
The jailed KMSS leader’s wife and well-wishers had been alleged that Gogoi’s health condition was deteriorating and demanded to admit him at the GMCH for better treatment. However, in spite of bringing Gogoi to the GMCH, his family members, well-wishers and the lawyers were barred from visiting at the jail remises owing to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
