In an unfortunate incident, a boat with around 10 persons on board capsized in the flood-hit Samaguri area on July 13th, 2019. The incident took place at No 2 Laokhowa, Bhoramukh area under Nagaon district.
Women, men including children were immediately rescued by the locals. The 10 of them are reported to be out of danger. Most of the villages under Samaguri are reeling under water as the second wave of flood has hit the state.
“The water levels have increased in the rivers here and most of the villages are submerged under water. The boat turned upside down due to the water current and rains,” said a local.
It may be mentioned that the monsoon flood has inundated 25 districts in Assam and affected over 14 lakh people. The Brahmaputra river and its tributaries are flowing above the danger mark.
The worst hit districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Nalbari, Chirang, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Morigaon, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Baksa, Sonitpur, Darrang and Barpeta.
