The body of a 12-year-old Adivasi girl from Assam’s Lakhimpur, who died under mysterious circumstances in Arunachal Pradesh and was buried without a post-mortem, was exhumed on June 8th, 2019.  The girl died in the house of an Arunachal Pradesh MLA, Techi Kaso.

It may be mentioned that the girl, who hailed from Line No. 4 of the Dolahat Tea Estate, was reportedly found hanging in the house of Kaso at Burung Basti in Naharlagun town on May 20th, 2019. The lawmaker represents the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) from the Itanagar Assembly constituency.

The body was buried in Assam without an FIR and autopsy. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights had recommended exhuming the body of the girl.

A complaint was lodged by the All Assam Adivasi Students’ Union. An FIR was filed on June 1st, 2019 after a team of the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and NCPRC investigated the matter.
