    Bodyguard Of ULFA-I’s Dhrishti Rajkhowa Surrenders At Joypur After Rejoining Outfit

    The cadre was trained in one of the jungles bordering Meghalaya and Bangladesh for three months

    In a major blow to the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I), led by fugitive Paresh Baruah, the bodyguard of the outfit’s self-0styled deputy commander-in-chief, Drishti Rajkhowa surrendered at Joypur Army Camp on October 2nd, 2019.

    A resident of Jorhat, Dawol Jyoti Dutta alias Dior Asom surrendered with a Chinese made pistol and four rounds of bullets.

    It may be mentioned that Dutta was working as the ‘Personal Security Officer’ of Rajkhowa before he was apprehended by Jorhat Police in Nov 2018. He rejoined the outfit in July 2019 after he was released on bail. 

    “The cadre was trained in one of the jungles bordering Meghalaya and Bangladesh for three months. His area of operation was in Meghalaya districts bordering Bangladesh and Lower Assam districts like Goalpara, Dhubri, Nalbari etc,” said sources.

    The ULFA-I in Meghalaya areas operates along with the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA). “The arrested cadre said that the extortion amount is divided the ULFA-I (40%) and GNLA (60%),” added sources.

    The cadre was handed over to Joypur Police Station for further surrender proceeding. Rajkhowa alias Manoj Rabha is said to be one of the close confidantes of the group’s commander-in-chief Baruah and an RPG expert.
