‘Bohag Bihu’ celebrations turn fatal: Three killed, several injured in road accident in Assam
Guwahati: In the midst of Bohag Bihu celebrations, as many as three people died and 35 people were injured in a road accident at a village nearby Sesa River Bridge at Narayanpur under Lakhimpur district on Friday.
As per reports, a tractor carrying a Bihu team (Husori Dal) fell off the Sesa River Bridge into a canal at around 5 pm in the evening hours. Of the three deceased, one died on the spot.
Five out of the 35 people were reported to be in critical condition and were immediately rushed to Lakhimpur civil hospital, Tezpur Medical College Hospital and Gauhati Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
The deceased persons were identified as Punkha Basumatary, Kanaklal Narzary, Kansaigiri Brahma were the residents of the Bikrampur area under Narayanpur Tehsil.
Earlier, on the day of ‘Goru Bihu’ (the first day of the Rongali Bihu celebration) as many as seven persons including a brother-sister duo drowned in multiple numbers of tragic incidents in Assam last Wednesday.
While five including a girl died in Biswanath district, two others drowned in Dibrugarh district.
