In what can be seen as an unprecedented move by Bollywood stars, which have often been called out for keeping mum on controversial issue, the film fraternity has come together virtually to extend their support to actor Rhea Chakraborty, who was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday.
Minutes after her arrest in a drugs case linked to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, social media was flooded with a quote on “smash the patriarchy” and #JusticeForRhea started trending simultaneously.
Celebrities such as Vidya Balan, Zoya Akhtar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Dia Mirza, Abhay Deol, Shweta Bachchan Nanda and several others took on social media to share the quote – something that was written on the T-shirt Rhea wore on Tuesday as she appeared before the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
“Roses are red, violates are blue, let’s smash the patriarchy, me and you,” was the message written on Rhea’s T-shirt. It found echo in Bollywood with the celebs sharing the quote on their respective Instagram handles and some also sought justice for her.
While several actors used the hashtag #Justice ForRhea, actor Sonam Kapoor Ahuja on the other hand, penned down a quote on “witch hunt” by American novelist Walter Kirn, she wrote in the caption.
Earlier, Radhika Apte and Saqib Saleem too posted the same message on their social media accounts.
Most of the industry members have come forward to slam the alleged media trial in the case and the unfair treatment meted out to Rhea. Among them were actor Taapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan and Lakshmi Manchu.
Filmmakers Anubhav Sinha and Anurag Kashyap had been expressing their opinion on the case time and again on their respective social media handles.
Rhea Chakraborty was in a connection with Sushant. The 34-year-old actor was discovered dead at his apartment in Mumbai on June 14.
She has also been accused of abetment to suicide in connection with Sushant’s death which the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing, and an associated dollars laundering situation remaining probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday rejected Rhea Chakraborty’s bail plea and sent her to judicial custody until September 22.
Now, according to the latest update on the same, the actress will be sent to Byculla jail.
Tthe court rejected the bail of Rhea Chakraborty stating that it cannot grant bail for cognizable offences. Rhea’s lawyer stated that they will be approaching the session’s court for the bail.
