Bollywood Superstar Akshay Kumar To Donate Rs 2 Crore For Assam Flood Relief

Guwahati: As the monsoon mayhem has continued to wreak havoc in Assam claiming lives of at least 17 people as on July 16th, 2019, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar expressed his desire to donate Rs. 2 crores for the flood relief in the state.

Appealing everyone to stand with Assam, the actor on July 17th, 2019 took to his official Twitter handle to announce that he will donate Rs 1 crore each to the CM Relief Fund and for the Kaziranga Park rescue.

“Absolutely heartbreaking to know about the devastation by floods in Assam. All affected, humans or animals, deserve support in this hour of crisis.I’d like to donate 1cr each to the CM Relief Fund & for Kaziranga Park rescue. Appealing to all to contribute,” (sic) Akshay’s tweet read.

As many as seventeen persons have lost their lives and at least 14,134 persons have been evacuated so far as raging waters of the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries flooded 4,663 villages of 30 flood-affected districts out of 33 districts in Assam.

Appreciating the magnanimity, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed gratitude for the actors ‘gesture and support’.

Meanwhile, brand ambassador of Assam Tourism and global star Priyanka Chopra ‘devastated’ with the ravaging flood in the state and urged the people and followers to donate some amount.

On July 16th, 2019, track sensation Hima Das appealed to big corporates and individuals to come out and help the victims of the flood as it continues to ravage the state of Assam. The ‘Dhing Express’ also donated half of her month’s salary for the relief of flood victims.
