Guwahati: The Assam amateur boxing association on Sunday said that three boxers of the state – Lovlina Borgohain, Jamuna Boro and Shiva Thapa have been ranked in the world’s top amateur boxer’s world ranking, which was released recently by the international boxing association.
Association president Kali Kanta Boro said, “In the recently released world rankings, Olympic qualifier Lovlina Borgohain has been ranked 3rd under 69 kgs weight category while world elite women medallist Jamuna Boro was ranked 5th under 54 kgs weight category. Olympian Shiva Thapa was also ranked 16th under 60 kgs weight category.”
While extending congratulations to the boxers for their prestigious achievements, Boro said, “No doubt, the announcement has overwhelmed the people of Assam. However, the scheduled camps, practices and a number of matches have been on halt ever since the outbreak of the coronavirus. Such a long interruption on the scheduled events will affect the performance of the boxers in coming events.”
The president further said that the association has been monitoring the practices online. “Our experts are also ready to provide tips online if the boxers feel necessary while practising at home,” he added.
Association general secretary Hemanta Kumar Kalita also extended congratulations to the boxers for their achievements.
