GUWAHATI: Former Speaker of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Legislative Assembly, Tridip Daimary on Sunday said that the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) will constitute development board for each community residing in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) if it returns to power.
Daimary said, “BPF is responsible for equal uplift of all the communities, irrespective of caste and communities, who have been residing in the BTAD prior to 2003. We have decided to constitute development boards for each community if we return to power.”
The former speaker also stressed that the BPF will prioritise a ‘land survey’ in the council areas to provide land pattas (deed) to all the genuine residents of the BTAD. “We are committed to ensuring land rights for all the communities residing within the jurisdiction of the BTC. No one should fear that their rights and privileges will be curtailed. BPF is the only political party in the BTAD who can safeguard the interest of both the Bodos as well as the non-Bodos,” he said.
Taking a dig at the Bodo-non-Bodo political dialectics prevailing in the BTC, Daimary stressed that all the caste and communities residing in the council areas have been enjoying equal rights and privileges. “No one is deprived. The polarisation of the Bodos and non-Bodos is nothing other than the act of certain power mongers,” he said.
Daimary also asserted that the “Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is simply the renaming of the BTC. “There is nothing new in it,” he further said.
Stressing that the BPF will return to power, the former speaker said, “The Naba Kumar Sarania-led Gana Suraksa Party will get roughly 4 seats in the ensuing BTC polls. We are not considering United People’s Party Liberal a competent contender. Other national parties like the BJP and the Congress have no influence in the BTC elections. Altogether, we will return to power.”
