One person on May 4th, 2019 went missing and other four somehow swam to the shore of river Brahmaputra after a boat capsized in the turbulent river. The missing person is Naba Kalita.

The incident took place when all the five were returning to home at Rani Sapori at Palashbari in Kamrup (Rural) district at around 6 pm on May 4th, 2019. As per information, the boat hit by a storm and incessant rain and it capsized.

The survivors are Kanak Mazumdar, Arup Kalita, Jonmoni Mahanta and Ratneswar Das.

The Azara police and the river police on being informed reached the incident spot. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel also reached the spot. “It is impossible to launch the rescue operation as the current in the river is high and the wind speed is also high. So, we cannot take a risk,” one of the NDRF personnel said.

However, spontaneous downpour affected the search operation of the missing person.
