BREAKING: 3 BPF MCLA joins UPPL
GUWAHATI: In yet another twist in the Bodoland politics, at least three Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) member of council legislative assembly (MCLA) of Bodoalnd Territorial Council (BTC) joined United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) on Tuesday.
The three – B Saoraigwra, Prabhat Basumatary and Dhananjoy Basumatary-joined UPPL at a meeting in a city hotel.
After the joining of the trio, BPF which had secured the single largest majority of 17 seats in the last BTC polls now reduced to 13. Already another BPF winning leader Reo Reoa Narzihary joined BJP.
BTC since its formation in 2003 saw the first coalition ruled council this time after UPPL. BJP and Gana Shakti Party (GSP) formed the new council taking it over from Hagrama Mohilary led BPF.
UPPL has also managed to secure at least six state assembly constituencies in the recently declared Assam election results. Whereas BPF came down to four seats from 12 in 2016 in the state polls. Though BJP-BPF was an ally earlier, the former snapped ties with BPF just ahead of the BTC polls of last year and forged an alliance with UPPL.
