Guwahati: A special National investigation Agency (NIA) court on Thursday has discharged activist and Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi from the remaining Chandmari police station case.
After one and a half years of being in jail Akhil Gogoi is likely to come under open sky soon as NIA has failed to provide proof against Gogoi to back the claims for his nexus with Maoist.
Akhil Gogoi’s wife Geetashree Tamuly took to Facebook on her husband being free of all accusations and hailed the judiciary.

Akhil Gogoi on Wednesday accused the NIA along with the centre and state government of conspiring against him.
In an open letter to people of the state, the jailed leader blamed state chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of heading the conspiracy and Centre of using the premier investigating agency against him.
“It’s just a conspiracy to shut my voice and keep me away from the people and the Opposition in the state assembly. I urge the people of the state to unite and save me,” Akhil Gogoi urged in his letter.
Earlier on June 22, NIA discharged him from all the charges in the Chabua case as the special court failed to frame charges against him.
Gogoi was arrested in December 2019 from Jorhat under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, (UAPA) for his alleged role in violent anti-CAA protests and probable nexus with the Maoists based on two cases filed in Chabua and Chandmari police stations.
