Guwahati: A highly placed source of the Guwahati Central Jail authority on Thursday claimed that Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi has been tested Covid-19 negative.
“We have received the swab test report of Akhil Gogoi. He was tested negative for Covid-19,” the source said.
The source informed Time8 that a four-member team of doctors, comprising – one ENT Specialist, one Dermatologist, one Surgeon and one Medicine Specialist visited the Guwahati central jail on Wednesday evening and examined the health conditions of Akhil Gogoi. “He was found fit and no complicacy found at such,” the source further said.
According to the source, Gogoi has been suffering from piles and skin allergy since long. “The team of specialist doctors who examined Gogoi yesterday provided all the medicines required for the ailments like skin problem and piles for routine medication,” the source claimed.
The source also expressed concern over the unprecedented rumour being created and circulated on the health conditions of Gogoi.
Notably, other KMSS leaders Bitu Sonowal and Dhajya Konwar were tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday and were admitted at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital on Thursday.
It must be mentioned here that altogether 6 persons, including KMSS leaders Sonowal and Konwar, have been tested positive for Covid-19 inside the Guwahati central jail premises till filing this report.
On Thursday, the members of the KMSS and its sister organisations, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, All Tai Ahom Students Union, Modmukto Asom, Veer Lachit Sena, and well-wishers and likeminded people of the state have also launched a digital ‘Free-Akhil Gogoi’ campaign. Parallely, various indigenous organisations also demonstrated human chain and street protests in many parts of the state demanding immediate release of the peasant leader.
