BREAKING: Akhil Gogoi to file defamation case against Aminul Islam

Guwahati: Raijor Dal president and Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi to move defamation suit against All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam for the latter’s alleged claim that Gogoi had sought Rs 10 core from the party before the state assembly elections in May last.

Both the legislators were seen in a war of words recently, after Islam claimed that Gogoi had asked for the money to start his political front Raijor Dal before the polls. Gogoi then discarded the charges saying that he was the most honest MLA in the state and termed Islam as a “fraud and communal” leader.

On Friday, Gogoi said, “Enough of Islam’s statement. I have decided to move the court against him. It doesn’t feel good to file a case against a colleague in the assembly. But still I will challenge him in court and file a defamation case against him shortly.”

The comment from the AIUDF leader came after Gogoi yet again rejected to be a part of the Congress led ‘Mahajoth’ (grand alliance) till AIUDF remains a part of it.

Islam had said, “Gogoi said that he would need around Rs 10 Crore to set up and expand his party while he was in judicial custody before the election. The discussion happened even before the formation of grand alliance in the last election. Akhil Gogoi said that since his party was new, he needed the sum to establish his party’s reach across the state before the polls.”
