Guwahati: In view of the vote-counting day on May 2, the state government of Assam on Thursday declared dry days on May 2 and 3 respectively.
However, the election districts under which the counting of votes and declaration of election results of all the assembly constituencies will be completed on or before 11 a.m. on May 3, dry day shall be relaxed on those election districts.
During the dry days, sale, consumption, possession, distribution, transportation, storage of liquor and other substances are strictly prohibited in all the election districts of Assam.
All IMFL ‘Off’/‘On’/Country spirit shops of the state remain closed during the dry days.
An order in this regard has been forwarded to all the District commissioners’ office Sub divisional officer’s office including all the district excise officials on Thursday.
As per the notification, the order shall not be applicable in the election districts where the counting of the votes and election results are declared on or before 11 am on May 3.
Altogether 946 candidates were in the fray for the election to the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly this year.
Around 264 candidates contested in 47 constituencies which went to polls in the first phase.
For 39 seats in the second phase, 345 contestants were on the fray, while 337 tried their luck in 40 constituencies during the third phase of voting.
