BREAKING: Assam extends curfew hours from 2 PM; All offices to remain closed for 15 days
GUWAHATI: In view of the rising COVID 19 cases in the state, Assam government has decided to extend the curfew hours from 2 pm to 5 am from Thursday.
All shops and commercial establishments were ordered to shut down their operations at 1 pm on all days from Thursday too. However, e-commerce and home delivery services were allowed before 1 pm also.
All weekly markets and bazars were asked to remain closed for next 15 days too.
Besides, all government has also ordered to close down all government and private offices for the next 15 days.
All public transport has been allowed to operate only with 30 % of seating capacity. Pillion riding has been banned except for women and children.
Marriage, funerals and religious functions will be allowed with the presence of a maximum of 10 persons while no reception parties will be allowed before or after marriage.
All religious places were also asked to remain closed for the next 15 days in the state. However, the religious head or representatives were allowed to perform minimal religious prayers.
The state of Assam is witnessing an abnormal increase in death cases in the last 24 hours due to Covid 19. On Tuesday, the state reported another single day spike with 85 death cases.
New cases detected on Tuesday were 6,258 with a positivity rate of 9.13%. Of the 6,258 positive cases, Kamrup Metro district alone reported 1,585 cases.
As per the National Health Mission report, the highest caseload districts were Kamrup rural with 527 cases, Dibrugarh with 507 cases and Nagaon with 313 cases.
Presently, the total active cases stand to 39,264.
The death toll climbed to 1,838.
