Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on March 27th, 2020, announced to start delivery of vegetables, fish and meat at the doorstep during the complete lockdown that came into effect on March 24th, 2020 midnight.
This came after chaos reported at the vegetable markets, which were allowed to open, across the state today. The CM made this statement during his visit to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital to take stock of the preparations to fight against COVID-19.
The CM once again appealed the people of the state to restrain from stepping out of the house.
After the government’s decision to open the sale of vegetables at seven designated places of the city, people thronged the markets without maintaining social distancing. This forced the government to shut the markets immediately as it jeopardises public health.
