NHAI exempts tankers carrying Liquid Medical Oxygen from toll fee

GUWAHATI: Assam government has decided to grant the status of an ambulance to all the tankers carrying Oxygen, Nitrogen and Argon to ensure their hassle-free movement in the state and transit through Assam for the speedy delivery of Oxygen to critical centres.

On Wednesday, state’s health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Assam Govt has granted all oxygen vehicles- tankers carrying Nitrogen, Argon and Oxygen – the status of the ambulance, to enable their hassle-free movement in state and transit through Assam for the speedy delivery of oxygen to critical centres.”

The state government has taken several initiatives to ramp up the availability of Oxygen. At least 11 cryogenic vessels covering all seven medical college hospitals with a storage capacity of 210 KL completed and commissioned.

Sarma said that efforts were underway to install 19 plants of medical oxygen. On Monday, he informed that the state had 288.19 metric tonnes of oxygen.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has also provided three medical Oxygen plants worth Rs 2.25 Cr to Guwahati Medical College Hospital here recently.
