GUWAHATI: Assam government announced the evaluation modalities for the students of high school leaving certificate (HSLC) / high madrassa on Thursday. The state government had formed an expert panel to suggest the evaluation modalities.

Announcing the modalities, state education minister Ranoj Pegu said that students slated to appear for HSLC and high madrassa would be given marks based on their performances in classes IX and X.

For the students who are evaluated through the annual examination of class IX and the pre-board/ revisionary test held for class X, at least 40 percent weightage on marks secured by the student in the theory portion of each subject in the annual examination of class IX.

“Another 40 percent weightage of marks secured by the student in the theory portion of each subject in the pre-board/ revisionary test held in class X (current year). The remaining 20 percent marks will be given to the students by the school authority based on the students’ internal assessment like attendance, discipline, online exams, home assignments,” the minister said.

The minister added that in some of the cases where the evaluation of the students via internal assessment of class X is unavailable, at least 70 percent of marks would be based on the students’ performance in the theory portion of each subject in the annual examination of class IX, of the year in which he/she has appeared and promoted to class X.

The remaining 30 percent would be evaluated based on their internal assessments, he added.
On the other hand, evaluation of marks for the physically challenged students, around 1459 in the state, would be done by the school authority.

Pegu added, “If any student is unsatisfied with the evaluation policy they can appear for a physical exam. The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) will conduct exams for them within September 15. If somehow exams can’t be conducted within this time frame then also we will conduct exam whenever it’s possible.”

He also announced that students who aspire to become TET teachers or work in government jobs where the merit of candidates is evaluated based on their marks of HSLC, have to appear for the physical exams.

The results will be declared by July 31.
