Guwahati: Assam police have arrested one person in connection with the recent haul of explosive at Nongpoh (Meghalaya) on Tuesday. He was identified as Hasem Ali of Ghoramara Pathar village in Kamrup district.
Police in Meghalaya had seized over 2,000 aluminium improvised electrical detonators (IEDs) and more than 4,000 gelatin sticks from a vehicle on Friday. According to Meghalaya police, based on specific information, a vehicle bearing an Assam registration number was intercepted near Byrnihat police outpost while it was on its way to Guwahati.
Though the vehicle tried to evade police check post, the man in uniform succeeded to detain it. A search of the vehicle led to recovery of 2,044 IEDs and 4,027 gelatin sticks. The driver was arrested then.
On Tuesday, Kamrup police said that the consignment of explosive belonged to Ali. The apprehension took place today afternoon from Alikash Ghat on the banks of the river Brahmaputra, Kamrup police added.
