Guwahati: Assam Police Director General Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta tested Covid 19 positive on Monday. He has now been asked to stay in home isolation.
Sources in Assam Police headquarter said that the police chief conducted a rapid test on Monday morning. Reportedly, he had no symptoms.
Mahanta has been traveling across the state recently as the state government has been renovating the police stations of the state under Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI) scheme.
Earlier, driver of the DGP had also tested positive of Covid 19.
As of Sunday, 2154 of our personnel have tested positive for Corona, out of which 1543 have recovered. Six Assam Police personnel died of the infection so far. After fighting bravely, 607 police personnel have resumed duty.
