    BREAKING: Bihu ‘Chanda’ collection banned in Lakhimpur

    The district magistrate of Lakhimpur has imposed the prohibitory order under section 144 of the CrPC

    Guwahati: The district magistrate in Lakhimpur has prohibited any kind of financial collection (chanda), forceful donation/roadside collection or any kind of extortion in any manner from any person, business establishment, office or intimidation by any person or firm in the region from April 12 until further orders.

    The notification came into effect after District Magistrate of Lakhimpur, Khageswar Pegu claimed that there has been a large scale of forceful collection cum extortion going on in several parts of the district, thus leading to the disturbance of public peace and tranquility.

    As per sources, there are reports of alleged ‘chanda’ collection by a certain group of people for the upcoming Rongali Bihu celebrations in the district leading to widespread harassment to some sections of business establishments, offices and people.

    Notably, the district magistrate of Lakhimpur has imposed the prohibitory order under section 144 of the CrPC.
