Guwahati: Aminul Haque Laskar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s lone Muslim MLA from the state, has been elected unanimously as the Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
The post of deputy speaker was lying vacant since June 2nd, 2019 after Kripanath Malla won the Kamrimganj Lok Sabha seat. Laskar represents the Sonai constituency in Cachar district. He won the 2016 Assembly elections on BJP ticket.
It may be recalled, last month he received a letter, handwritten in Bengali with red ink, asking him to resign within 15 days. Two bullets of a .32 pistol were taped to the letter.
