Guwahati: The counting of votes in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) elections is underway. The counting which started at 7 am on Sunday will decide the fate of 154 candidates who contested the polls.
According to the latest reports, the results of 24 of the 26 constituencies have already been announced.
Currently, the BJP is leading from the front with all the 24 seats, whereas, opposition parties haven’t been able to open their account so far.
As claimed by the BJP leaders during the KAAC election campaigns, the ruling BJP party is on the verge of a big victory.
Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had also predicted during the KAAC election campaigns that the BJP party would win at least 22 or 23 seats out of 26.
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has emerged as one of the strongest contenders that have challenged the BJP in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council elections like the Guwahati municipal elections this year.
The KAAC election was held on June 8 for 26 constituencies.
There was a re-poll at two polling stations on June 9 due to some irregularities.
