Agartala: In yet another success, Tripura police on Saturday seized 198 packets of dry cannabis worth Rs 2 crore from an 18-wheeler truck near Bishalgarh police station under Sepahijala district.
Bishalgarh police had information that an 18-wheeler truck loaded with huge quantity of dry cannabis from Udaipur sub-division of Gomati district was proceeding towards Tamil Nadu.
Weekend curfew was imposed on Saturday and Sunday throughout the state. Police was patrolling in front of Bishalgarh police station since Saturday morning.
Based on that secret information, a huge police force led by Bishalgarh Police Station OC Debashish Saha sat in front of Bishalgarh Police Station.
The 18-wheeler truck was seized by the Bishalgarh police while the vehicle was passing through Bishalgarh for Agartala to Tamil Nadu.
During search, police found a large quantity of dry cannabis from the truck. The lorry driver was also arrested.
Meanwhile, Sepahijala District superintendent of police (SP) Krishnendu Chakraborty rushed to the spot.
Speaking with reporters, Chakraborty said 198 packets of dried cannabis were recovered from the truck and the market value of the seized cannabis would be around Rs 2 crore.
However, police are investigating who had sent this huge quantity of dry cannabis. He further said that such operations will continue in the coming days as well.
