GUWAHATI: The maximum amount a candidate for the ensuing assembly polls in Assam was allowed to spend for his or her poll campaign was fixed at Rs 30.8 lakh. On Monday, the chief electoral officer (CEO), Assam, Nitin Khade informed the representatives of the political parties in the state.
In his deliberation on expenditure guidelines, CEO Khade highlighted that the maximum amount a candidate can spend on his or her campaign is Rs. 30.8 lakh .
The CEO also sought the cooperation of all the parties to ensure a free and fair election by curbing down activities involving illicit liquor, abuse of money and muscle power and restrictions on campaign activities 48 hours before the poll.
Representatives of political parties like the Communist Party of India (CPI), CPI (M), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Indian National Congress (INC) were present in the meeting with CEO.
Meanwhile, Khade also constituted a complaint monitoring cell to look after the smooth functioning and proper complaint management of the control room (24×7), helpline, complaints and call centre during the election process. The toll-free helpline voter’s helpline number is 1950.
Parag Kumar Kakoty, deputy secretary and joint CEO was appointed as the nodal officer of the Cell.
