    BREAKING: CID arrested 3 more in ‘Pre-matric Minority Scholarship Case

    All accused were arrested for allegedly misappropriating pre-matric scholarship funds for poor minority students’ worth about Rs 10 crore

    GUWAHATI: CID arrested 3 more in ‘Pre-matric Minority Scholarship Case

    Assam Police CID arrested three more persons in connection with the ‘Pre-matric Minority Scholarship Case’ on Monday.

    The three were arrested following a raid by CID sleuths at locations under Boko PS, Nagarbera PS and Dhupdhara PS in the intervening nights of Sunday and Monday.

    The state police said, “Five persons were picked up during the raid. After thorough interrogation and upon finding sufficient evidence,  Nur Haque, 38 yrs, Golam Mustafa, 27 yrs, Azad Rofikul Islam, 41 yrs have been arrested. They will be produced before the Court tomorrow.”

    With the latest arrest, the total arrest in connection with the case now stood at 35.

    On Thursday, CID filed chargesheet against 32 people, including four headmasters and eight CSP owners, in connection with the minority scholarship scam in the state.

    All accused were arrested for allegedly misappropriating pre-matric scholarship funds for poor minority students’ worth about Rs 10 crore for the past two fiscals. They have been in judicial custody.

    The charge sheet has 7,386 pages and the case diary of the case ran into 1880 pages. A total of 220 people have been named as prosecution witnesses (PWs). The statements of 10 witnesses were also recorded during the trial.

    The charge sheet was submitted in 86 days from the date of first arrest in the case.
