Guwahati: Assam government to vaccinate all teachers, students and school staffs in the state by September 5 as it announced to reopen classes from September 1.
On Thursday, Assam cabinet has decided to restart the final year classes from the next month with Covid19 pandemic situation now believed to be under control in the state.
State’s health minister Keshab Mahanta said, “We are launching a special drive starting from Friday to vaccinate all the teachers, students above 18 years and other staffs within September 5. Since we have also decided to reopen classes for the final year students of higher secondary and degree level, vaccination of all them is a must.”
The minister said that a fresh standard operating procedure (SOP) would be released on August 30 detailing the protocols.
The state cabinet has also given permission to reopen the hostels of various educational institutes in the state. However, all boarders have to be double vaccinated to start their stay in the hostels.
Earlier, state chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that for this purpose the state government has been allotted with some 12 lakh additional Covid-19 vaccine doses from the Centre.
The Centre has also asked all the state governments to vaccinate all the teachers in their respective states by September 5 which is the Teacher’s Day.
The chief minister further said that the state government will gradually try to reopen the schools and colleges in the state from September 1.
