    BREAKING: CM Sonowal hikes pension for freedom fighters, free medical treatment

    It was also agreed to give a one-time ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of at least 19 freedom fighters of the state

    GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday announced to enhance the pension and financial assistance to next-of-kin of freedom fighters of the state.

    Sonowal held a discussion with the representatives of the Assam State Freedom Fighters’ Association at the state guest house at Kharghuli and agreed to address the long pending demands of the forum.

    Following the discussion, the chief minister’s office in a statement said, “The CM also directed cremation of freedom fighters with befitting honour. The CM has announced free treatment of freedom fighters of the state.”

    The statement added that from the current pension of Rs 21000, the freedom fighters were promised a pension of Rs 25000. It was also agreed to give a one-time ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of at least 19 freedom fighters of the state.
