GANGTOK: A large cache of contrabands were seized from a police constable in Sikkim’s Tarpin Charfatak area on Wednesday. However, the identity of the policeman was not revealed yet.
On Wednesday, Rhenock Police Station received inputs that one police constable along with his friends, suspected to be carrying contraband substances, was traveling to the Rhenock area of in a taxi. Immediately, police sleuths rushed to the spot and intercepted the vehicle which had three occupants.
After a search was carried out in presence of independent witnesses, three plastic carry bags containing 420 numbers of suspected to be spasmoproxyvon and 12 numbers of used Nitrazepam tablets were recovered from a bag belonging police constable.
Also, one black colored plastic carry bag containing 134 blue colored loose capsules suspected to be spasmoproxyvon were recovered from the right pocket of his pants.
“Accordingly, the same was seized, packed and sealed in presence of aforesaid witnesses in presence of a Gazetted Officers. The entire search and seizure were appropriately documented and photographed in presence of witnesses. The possession of contraband substances without documents in large quantities is an offense under SADA, 2006 and SADA Amendment Act, 2017 and the aforesaid Police constable could not produce any documents regarding the recovery of the same from his possession,” police sources said.
Rhenock police subsequently registered a suo-moto case under Sikkim Anti-Drugs Amendment Act, 2017 against the accused police constable and his associates.
