GUWAHATI: An Election Commission of India (ECI) team comprising of Dharrnendra Sharma, director general (DG), ECI, concluded its assessment of preparation of the Assam Assembly polls slated sometime in April-May.
The DG was accompanied by Narendra Nath Butolia, senior principal secretary, ECI, P Srivastaysa. Director, expenditure, Kamal Agarwal, director, IT, Vijay Pandey, director, Law, Vipin Katara, consultant, EVM.
The team visited the state from January 11 to January 13 to take stock of preparedness regarding the forthcoming general elections to the Assam Legislative Assembly both at the district and the state level.
“The DG, ECI and Nitin Khade, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam conducted the review meeting on elections preparedness on 11/01/2021 and 12/1/2021 with Divisional Commissioners. Deputy Commissioners cum Distr. Election officers, Range DIGS and Superintendents of Police of revenue districts,” said an official statement.
All key issues covering electoral roll, EVM/VvPAT first level checking, polling stations, manpower, transportation, security and Covid issues were discussed at length and feedbacks were taken from the districts in respect of all the important issues related to the smooth conduct of ensuing elections.
The DG, ECI also held a meeting with Chief Secretary, Assam, CEO, Assam and Principal Secretaries and commissioner & secretaries from Home & Political, Transport, Health & Family Welfare, Excise, Personnel, Revenue & CYM and ADGP,L&O, State Nodal Officer of Police for elections and discussed all issues relating to conduct of general elections to Assam Legislative Assembly.
The ECI officials also held meetings with DGP, Assam and Income Tax, Narcotics Control Bureau, CAPF and representatives of political parties also.
