    BREAKING: ECI Bans Bike Rallies in Poll-Bound Assam

    GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday, banned bike rallies in the poll-bound state of Assam.

    The ECI in a direction to the chief electoral officer (CEO) Assam said that it has been brought to the notice of the Commission that in some places bikes are used by some antisocial elements to intimidate the voters before the poll day or on poll day.

    “The Commission has considered the above issue and has decided that bike rallies shall not be allowed at any place 72 hours before the date of poll and or on the poll day in all poll going constituencies. This is in supersession of all instructions issued from time to time-related to the matter mentioned above,” the ECI communiqué said.

    The ECI has also asked the CEO Assam to inform all concerned stakeholders including candidates, political parties and Commission’s observers for strict compliance.

    Assam this year having its assembly election slated on March 27, April 1 and April 6.
