    Breaking: Education Dpt authorizes Metro admin to declare ‘Shutdown’ once daily Covid cases cross 1000

    Coaching institutes in districts having over 100 cases shall run with 50% capacity: Secondary Education Department

    Guwahati: In view of the rise in Covid-19 cases in Kamrup Metropolitan District, and to prevent its spread, in the event of detection of 1000 COVID-19 cases on a particular day, the secondary education department authorized the Deputy Commissioner cum District Magistrate of Kamrup Metropolitan District regarding the closure of all Educational Institutions (Government and Non-Government), Colleges and Universities, Coaching Institutions and all category of students Hostels, till May 4, 2021.

    However, Kamrup Metro administration is yet to issue an order in this regard.

    Also, for the continuous education process, online classes have to be mandatorily conducted for the students, the notification stated further.

    Earlier on Wednesday, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “It’s decided that the Kamrup (metro) district administration will close down all educational institutes from university to colleges and hostels if the city registers 1000 Covid positive cases daily.”

    Notably, the state government had already shut down primary schools in all those districts where Covid19 cases have seen a rising trend and gone up over 100 cases. There were at least 16 such districts in Assam where cases were rising sharply.

    On the other hand, in continuation to the earlier notice in districts having over 100 COVID cases, the secondary education department has issued additional guidelines on Thursday.

    As per the notification, coaching institutes shall run with 50% capacity.

    Online classes have been mandatory for students wherever necessary.

    Also, woman teaching / non-teaching staff who are pregnant or have children of 5 years or below shall be exempted from attending schools/coaching.

    In respect of teaching and non-teaching staff, the head of the educational institutions will have to arrange their attendance maintaining all COVID protocols, the order stated further.
