Breaking: Ex-Assam CM Dr Bhumidhar Barman passes away at 91
Guwahati: Former Assam chief minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman passed away on Sunday evening at a city hospital in Guwahati. He was 91.
The veteran Congress leader was hospitalized on March 13 due to old-age ailments and breathed his last today at 6:20 pm.
The 91-year-old Congressman held the CM’s chair twice; once for a brief period between April 22, 1996, and May 14, 1996, after the death of then CM Hiteshwar Saikia. He held the post again in 2010 when the then CM Tarun Gogoi was on leave on medical grounds.
During his illustrious career in politics, Barman had been elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly seven times.
He also held the important portfolios of revenue and health and family welfare as a cabinet minister.
